Lead Story

Updates in the next few days…

Our apologies for not updating in awhile. Schlep and I got real busy real fast with our schedules and other work and projects as well as our home-brewing. We are now almost ready to open the bottles of our 3rd batch, an oatmeal stout. Anyway, this is just a quick apology for not getting on here but there will be a small slew of updates in the next few days regarding all 3 batches of beer, anything else we have done or have going on, and anything funny we have found. Please keep checking back!

Homebrew, round 1, take 2»

So last we left our heroes (*cough*) on here, we had just sealed the fermenter on the first batch of beer. This should have been a golden ale, but it came out more as a brown ale per our mistakes. Oh well, live and learn (which we learned…a lot).

Well, it came time to bottle our pilot beer. Somehow we figured we had miscalculated on amounts because even after adding the two and half cups of primer solution, we still only managed to bottle a little over a case and half. Not good considering everything we’ve read had stated the yield is 48-50 bottles.

Well that worked and then we left them sit in the basement. Then came the trial opening…ah shit, here we go…what’s that Schlep and I always say? No one live forever.
We kinda missed on this but considering we had never brewed before, it came out ok. The first issue we had was a very tiny, ever so slight, and extremely minute over carbonation. Basically, when we opened the first bottle, we rushed it into the sink so that it could continue foaming over itself. By the time it was said and done, we maybe got five ounces of beer out a twelve ounce bottle. Ok, we had enough to conduct a taste test at least. Well it tasted mostly of malt extract with a bit of yeast and hops. Oh well, at least we tried….NEXT!

What a show! In all of my 10 years of going, I don’t think I ever experienced such a incredible rock oriented Dave show, nor have I had the priveledge to party in a tailgate quite like that last one. These were two of the best tailgates I’ve ever had!
